A scary wake up call for residents in Calgary’s north east Saturday morning after a fire tore through a garage in a Whitehorn home.

Battalion Chief Edward Cornez tells 660News the damage was quite extensive with reports of a cost of nearly $40,000.

“The garage has been destroyed, the car inside was destroyed, the home has some siding damage done to it,” he says.

Two dozen firefighters and three fire engines were called to the scene to douse the blaze.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
