Deerfoot Trail has opened following an early morning fatal collision.

It happened on northbound Deerfoot at 17 Avenue S.E. around 5:20 a.m.

Police say the semi was hauling an oversized load with a pilot truck in front and a second semi acting as a push truck behind it.

Acting Sergeant Bob Pugh with the Traffic Unit says it appears one of the chains used to tie down the crane that was being transported broke.  The load shifted causing the push truck to roll and was dragged for a considerable distance killing the 39-year-old driver.

Pugh says speed and alcohol were not factors and the company was obeying the rules of the road.
